The mission of the Friends of the Jacob
Edwards Library is to be the fundraising arm of the Library. We
are a non-profit organization that raises money for items such as
library programs, books, furniture, subscriptions, museum pass
memberships and other materials as needed.

Museum Passes – The Friends
provide a number of free and discounted passes to area museums and educational
attractions. Click here
for more information.
Children, Teen, and Adult Programs –
Throughout the year, the Friends sponsor a number of programs for
adults, teens and children. The Friends are the primary funding
source for most programs offered through the Jacob Edwards
Library. All programs are free and open to the general
public. See our Calendar
for a list of current events.
Summer Reading Programs – The
Friends generously support the annual Summer Reading Program for
children, teens, and adults. Each summer, this program provides incentives
and exciting programming to keep children and teens and promotes
reading during summer vacation.
Merchandise Sales – The Friends
offer a number of items for sale throughout the year. Book bags
made from recycled materials ($5) and decorative brass pins ($3) of the library
building are available for purchase at the Information Desk on the Main
Floor. Also, the Friends offer copies of the library-produced Memories
of Southbridge documentary ($15 for VHS, $20 for DVD). Merchandise is available for
purchase at the Information Desk on the Main Level.
Book Sale – A variety of books and CDs for sale on bookcarts located on the Lower Level of the
Library. All merchandise is donated and freshened on a regular
basis.
We accept gently used items for the
Book Sale throughout the year. Items must be in good condition
and relatively new. We cannot accept donations of condensed
books, magazines or reference sets. Donations may be given at the
Information Desk on the Main Floor.
The Annual Booksale is held in
the last weekend of March each year.
Artful Friends
- In 2005, the Friends created a partnership with local artists for the
purpose of fundraising, and Artful Friends was launched. Through
generous donations of original art and gift certificates from local
businesses, attractive prizes are displayed through the month of
June. Patrons can take chances for these prizes.
